Cookie Policy
Last updated 2026
This page explains which cookies and similar browser storage https://healthtools.pro uses, what each is for, and how to control them. It sits alongside our privacy policy, which covers data handling more broadly.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store, and which the browser sends back on later visits. Cookies are what let a site remember a preference between pages, and they are also what lets an advertising network recognise a browser across different sites.
Websites can also use local storage, small values kept by your browser but never sent automatically with page requests. We use local storage for our own preferences for that reason. This page treats both under the heading of "cookies", since your controls over them are effectively the same.
Cookies set by the site you are visiting are first-party; those set by another domain, such as an advertising network, are third-party.
The categories we use
1. Strictly necessary
These keep the site working and secure. They cover basic operation of the web server and protection against abusive traffic, and may be set by our hosting or security provider. They do not track you across sites and are not used for advertising. There is very little to them, as the site has no accounts, no logins and no shopping basket to remember.
2. Preference
These remember a choice you made so you do not have to make it again. On this site that means two things:
- Your unit choice. If you switch a calculator from metric to imperial, we remember it so the next calculator opens the way you prefer.
-
Your cookie consent choice. Stored under the key
vm-consentin your browser's local storage, with the valuealloressential, so the consent banner does not reappear on every page.
Both are first-party and stay on your device. They contain a preference, not an identifier. There is no ID that could be used to recognise you. Clearing your browser storage removes them; the only effect is that the banner shows again and units reset to the default.
3. Advertising
HealthTools is free and funded by advertising. Ads are served by Google, including Google AdSense, and its partner networks. These third parties set cookies of their own.
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Its use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- These may include the DoubleClick DART cookie and similar identifiers used to measure ad performance, limit how often you see the same ad, and detect click fraud.
- They are set on Google's domains, not ours. We cannot read them, cannot control their lifetime, and do not receive the data they collect. They are governed by Google's own policies.
- Advertising partners receive nothing you type into a calculator. Those figures never leave your browser, as described in our privacy policy.
4. Analytics
We do not currently run an analytics service, so no analytics cookies are set. We list the category because it is the most likely addition to this site, and we would rather name it now than quietly introduce it later. If we do enable analytics, we will name the provider on this page and in our privacy policy before it goes live.
Summary of what is set
Durations for third-party advertising cookies are set by the provider rather than by us, so the figures below are typical rather than guaranteed.
| Category | Purpose | Typical duration | Party |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Server operation, security and abuse protection | Session to 12 months | First party / hosting provider |
| Preference | Remembers your metric or imperial unit choice | Until you clear browser storage | First party |
| Preference | Remembers your cookie consent choice (vm-consent) |
Until you clear browser storage | First party |
| Analytics | Not currently used | Not applicable | Not applicable |
| Advertising | Ad selection, frequency capping and measurement | Typically up to 24 months | Third party (Google, partners) |
| Advertising | DoubleClick DART and similar ad identifiers | Typically up to 24 months | Third party (Google) |
How consent works here
On your first visit a notice appears at the bottom of the screen with two choices:
- Accept all: you consent to advertising cookies as well as the necessary and preference storage described above.
- Essential only: you decline consent for personalised advertising cookies. The site works exactly the same; ads may still appear, but should be non-personalised rather than based on a profile of your browsing.
Your choice is recorded in your browser's local storage under vm-consent so the
notice does not keep reappearing. It is stored only on your device. No record of your choice
is sent to us. Because it is stored per-browser, you will see the notice again on a different
browser or device, or after clearing site data.
To change or withdraw your choice, clear this site's cookies and local storage in your browser settings (the steps are below). The notice will then reappear on your next visit and you can choose again. For personalised advertising specifically, the Google control described below applies across all sites and is the more reliable route.
How to control cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you view, delete and block cookies under its privacy settings. You can normally block third-party cookies while leaving first-party ones alone, which stops most advertising tracking without affecting how this site behaves.
- Chrome: Settings, then Privacy and security, then Third-party cookies and Delete browsing data.
- Safari: Settings, then Privacy, where you can prevent cross-site tracking and manage stored website data.
- Firefox: Settings, then Privacy & Security, where Enhanced Tracking Protection and Cookies and Site Data live.
- Edge: Settings, then Cookies and site permissions.
Blocking all cookies and storage on this site will not break the calculators. They run in your browser and need no stored state. You will simply lose your remembered unit preference and see the consent notice on every visit. Note that these controls are per-browser and per-device, so you will need to repeat them on each one you use.
Opting out of personalised advertising
The most direct control is Google's own setting, which applies wherever Google serves ads:
- https://www.google.com/settings/ads turns off ad personalisation from Google.
- policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites explains how Google uses data from sites that use its services.
- https://www.aboutads.info is the Digital Advertising Alliance's explanation of interest-based advertising, and optout.aboutads.info lets you opt out of many vendors at once.
- youronlinechoices.eu is the equivalent European opt-out tool.
- optout.networkadvertising.org is the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out.
Opting out means ads stop being personalised. It does not remove advertising, and it is not the same as blocking cookies. Some opt-outs are themselves stored as a cookie, so clearing your browser data can undo them.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
There is still no consistent industry standard for honouring browser Do Not Track signals, so we do not claim to respond to them. Where the Global Privacy Control signal carries legal force (for example under California law), it is treated as a valid opt-out request in the jurisdictions that recognise it.
Changes to this policy
If we add a new cookie category, such as analytics, we will update this page before doing so and name the provider. The last-updated line at the top reflects the current version, and material changes are described here rather than made quietly.
